Use OpenStack Swift for Private Offsite Backup

As we are providing cloud storage access solutions for OpenStack Swift, we are also learning from our customers about how they are using the solution in their companies.

In this customer study, It involves two pieces of technology solutions, the OpenStack Swift, and Gladinet Cloud Enterprise.

OpenStack Swift is established off-site, but privately in a data center, with a service provider. The Gladinet Cloud Enterprise is established on-site, providing the on-ramp and connectivity to the private OpenStack Swift instance off-site.

Why OpenStack Swift

OpenStack Swift provides two benefits. First is that the storage under OpenStack Swift is already replicated and you can scale the storage capacity relatively easily compared to SAN storage.

Second is that it provides file streaming protocol over HTTPS, making it much faster than traditional CIFS protocol over the Internet, without opening non-SSL ports.

Why Gladinet Cloud Enterprise

openstack256Gladinet Cloud Enterprise provides a complete wrapper around OpenStack swift storage, from web browser client, desktop client to file server client. It also covers the access, backup, file sync and share and collaboration features.

In this case, customers will use the included Gladinet Cloud Server to send data to Swift and also use the web browser client to view and inspect the data if needed.
