Cloud Storage and Developers

Developers, developers, developers! I still remember this Steve Ballmer video. Even companies as big as Microsoft need more developers.

It is so easy to create a cloud storage nowadays. Sign up for an Amazon S3 account, download a .NET library or a PHP library, you are on your way to a weekend project to kick start your cloud storage offering.

It is a crowded space. Many services are competing at the capacity level, such as 50G - 25G for free. Not many users still look at 2G free offering. This is a no win competition and will drive the margin thin.

To win, it has to come down to the killer apps and the services on top of the storage. For example, if you have Gmail, you were locked into the service and the storage. Whoever offers the best apps stays. Whoever gets the most developers to write apps wins.

We are one of the developers, delivering cloud services to user's desktop. We released the Gladinet Cloud Desktop, build 71 to the web today. It was not easy and we are moving forward, with occasional setbacks. We are happy to start supporting ADrive in build 71.

Using the Gladinet SDK,  you can write your own Cloud Storage Plugin and plug in to the Gladinet framework. Your cloud storage will be accessible as part of the file system.

In the future, cloud storage offers SDKs. Developers offer Value-Adds. Everyone depends on everyone else like the world economy on the Internet.

I don't know if this is the right place but first of all many thanks for the great app you're developing. One thing I'm missing is using it from behind a proxy server. When will be there support for that feature? MANY THANKS and keep up with your excellent work!

We will be adding proxy supports by the time we walk out of beta. Send us specific things about proxy, such as ISA? SOCKS v4?v5? to support@gladinet.com

Thanks for the recent update, it's great to be finally able to use Google Docs through Gladinet despite not having a "true" google account. The cloud is making college work much more efficient, and Gladinet has made it even better. So thankyou and keep up the good work. I look forward to when it comes out of beta.

Jerry, delighted to see this addition of A drive in this latest release today. Looking forward to hooking it up shortly.

I've found that Gladinet has become an invaluable facility in a short space of time. The addition of Adrive to Gladinet on top of Skydrive, Google and Amazon opens up an immense storage capability from an easy to use service.

Keep up the excellent work and looking forward to the addition of Gdrive in due course [or whatever Google end up releasing if rumours are to be believed].

Nick,

Gladinet can be installed on Windows 7. However, we haven't done extensive testing there yet. If you hit any problems in Windows 7, please let us know. Thanks!

Gladinet has some problems with adrive. M$ skydrive works well but adrive in most cases blocks whole pc and restart is needed.

rymoholiko, could you please send us an email at support@gladinet.com? We'd like to know more about the situation with Adrive. What's your OS? Does simple accessing Adrive hang the PC? Or do you have to upload some files/folders? Does it happen immediately, or after awhile?

Thanks!
